Chapter 1

-Another new recommendation? Zey whispers, instantly placing his hands on his head.

– I hope it doesn’t come to the pity assessment! Said Mimi all worried

– Let's pray otherwise, it might be a little difficult to manage the pace, said Zey in the face of his worry.

– And you, daa what do you think?

-In my humble opinion, I find the teachers a little sneaky, of course that will depend on each person's jury. But if we have to take into account that we are supposed to assimilate as many updates as possible that have been published...and also know all our courses...we.Are.Damned, I say, looking away from my hook.

– You know what Zeynab? Replica Mariam on the verge of tears I would really have preferred that you didn't talk to me about it, and besides I don't even want to know what it's about this time.

Sitting on the couch I listened to them argue once again.

– Hahahahaha sorry mimi I will take care of making a summary sheet for you insh’allah.

– What good would that do me? I haven't even read all that pile of documents yet.

– zey shakes his head to express his disagreement then says that on the other hand, it’s because you procrastinate my dear and tender friend Mariam.

– Oh Zey! I was about to tell him the same thing. I said with a mocking look.

Mariam hurriedly took her things towards the corridor from where she shouted to us: "I'm going to my room to study."

Astonished and amused, Zey and I looked at each other before bursting into laughter and returning to our activities.

But the truth is, clinics are a bit scary and everyone deals with stress in their own way.

Right now I'm crocheting a hat that I received the order for three days ago and it helps me think about something other than my classes. Right in front of me Zeynab does her revision sheets. We rent an apartment on the other side of town literally on the opposite side of  our homes away from our families.

Mariam, Zeynab and I have been friends since middle school; Mimi and I are foster sisters; today we all live together and do medicine. Mimi wants to be a dermatologist but she has a fascination with procrastination especially when you have to read something other than dermatology, Alhamdulillah she always comes out at the right time; zeynab, for her part, psychiatry interests her greatly and I think it will suit her well. As for me, I don't know yet and honestly I don't really want to worry about it at the moment.

A few hours later Mimi stormed out of her room.  Very happy and offers us a restaurant claiming that she is tired of reading and staying at home, it has been three days since we left the apartment.

- So what do you want to eat? Hello here earth, can you hear me? She said in the face of our silence

 - I don't really know one? No, ice cream with milk cake for me. Do I get a takeaway ice cream?

Zey in turn pretends to think and suddenly snaps his fingers to say the same thing as me but with mango juice.

- Okay, I'll tell Khalid, he's the one who's taking us. Forward everyone! she shouted, mimicking Captain Hook and to accompany him in his show

I in turn shout “cast off, sailors”.

Zey bursts out laughing at our ridiculous circus, his laughter is so contagious that it carried us away too.

An hour later we were all ready to leave when our phones started doing the adhan* it was time for the Asr prayer*, we didn't pay attention to the time. Mariam warned Khalid that we were going to pray first before joining him and that he could also pray in the prayer room on the ground floor.

Our prayer room is one of the rooms that we have converted into a library and prayer room. It's Mariam who is leading the asr prayer today, so she placed herself in the middle while Zey and I are respectively on the left and right after having done our four raka'ates* and adhkars* after the prayer, Zey suggested that we do our evening adhkars  before leaving because Khalid has the annoying tendency of making us hang around for hours every time he suggests an outing. So I headed to the library to take our books.

Initially the apartment had 4 bedrooms each with a toilet and another toilet at the end of the corridor, a living room large enough to make a dining room, and a kitchen.

But The Prayer Room is by far my favorite.

About thirty minutes later Mariam's phone rings and it's Khalid who asks us to join him. To set the mood a little, I'm launching a little challenge:

-The last one to arrive on the ground floor is lost, I said, moving away at full speed towards the stairs.

I hear them complaining while trying to catch up with me.

The building is made up of four floors and we are on the third level, each side of the building has stairs that lead to the entrance hall. At the intersection of stairs of each level there is a balcony open to all inhabitants of the level. As I rushed towards the exit I saw something fall from the top of the building with a sharp sound like a common bag thrown from above.

Which forced me to stop abruptly to understand what was happening, I felt that I was starting to lose control of my breathing. Think of something else think of something else breathe, breathe...at the same moment a shape appears at the entrance and says:

-So darling, shall I drop you off?

Phew it was just Zey. I run towards her, grab her shoulders shaking her and shout at her

-zey! I already told you that you weren't allowed to jump off the building like that, I said, screaming almost on the verge of tears.

-she jumped to the first one...I...tried...to stop her...but as usual...she doesn't listen, said Mimi behind, out of breath and sitting on the ground.

I sometimes forget that Mariam is not good at sports and that Zeynab is the fearless and super sporty type.

I let go of Zey for a moment to crouch down next to Mimi and help her catch her breath.

-take a break breathe mariem. Breathe...that's it, it's good. I say putting my hand on his back, once it was going well I turn towards Zey who doesn't look like someone who has just done a sprint and shouts at him - But more seriously Zey, imagine you were really hurting yourself there, how were we going to do it?

-oh it's okay, I know you're worried but it's okay, I'm in one piece and then I jumped higher than that you know? She said with her hands on her hips, so don't worry about me.

-So yes I can testify she really jumped higher than that and did more dangerous stunts!

It's  Khalid his voice comes from the entrance of the building the entrance.

-how long have you been here khalid? I said in his direction

-let me see....from: "I...tried...to...stop it..." he said trying to imitate mariam out of breath

- Well, I see that we missed you a lot, dear brother, replies Miriem, putting herself on edge.

She waves her hand to us saying that we can already set off. Heading towards the parking lot, Khalid, although delighted to have managed to make her sulk, turns around to make amends with the real kids.

-to make up for it, let me drive just on the way out, on the way back it's you who drives...she said, looking at him out of the corner of her eye

Khalid shocked looks at her for two minutes then exclaims while waving his arms

-no no no no no no way I'm giving you my cash brother.

-alleeeerr please my darling brother the most beautiful and mature my favorite brother... she begged

-Okay okay okay but you will listen to everything I tell you on the way, he said, handing her the key then he went to sit in the passenger seat.

After her victory dance she in turn sat in the driver's seat, Zey and I sat in the back seat.

-he has quite a weak point after all, don't you think? Zey whispers in my ear

- that’s the right thing to say, I said laughing.

Khalid is not very comfortable with compliments and we know very well how to use them to our advantage. Which shows that it has a certain advantage to be the youngest in a family.
